Where we take a look at early Ægypt, including the first contacts with the Atlantlan.

The Great Pyramids

The proto Ægyptians migrated into the Nylle Valley around 8,000 BAF, around the same time their proto-Atlantlan cousins were fleeing proto-Berberian persecution. like the early Atlantlan, these early Ægyptians were a red skinned people, tall and well formed. By 3,500 BAF the Ægyptians had united under a single ruler, who began forging his people into a people able to stand proud in the world.

When the Akkadians were forging the first empire the Ægyptians were building the first of the great pyramids. When the Atlantlans first encountered the Ægyptians, those people had developed a mathematics unequaled any where in the world, and were working on a system of deital magic comparable to that practice by the Atlantlan.

At first Ægyptian and Atlantlan relations were cordial and productive. But it was not long until the westerners were working to install worship of their gods in place of the Ægyptian, and working further to install their governors in place of Ægyptian pharoahs and governors.

War between the two powers began around 3,000 BAF, with neither power able to gain a decisive advantage. Fighting would occupy both for centuries, with neither side able to gain any permanent advantage.

Still the Ægyptians were able to expand into the Levant, taking control of Ca’anan, and at times expanding in the face of Atlantlan resistance into Lybbos, and into Kush and Meroe to the south.

The New Powers

It was during this period that new powers arose to challenge the first civilizations. Hurrians and Hittes rose to dominance in Anatolia, while the Babylonians and Assyrians came to power in place of the once powerful Sumerians and Akkadians.

Meanwhile new tribes migrated into the land of Hellas, displacing and conquering the Minoan colonies that had once held sway there.

The Greeks

These were the first of the Greek tribes, known as the Mycenae. The Mycenae established settlements at places that would later be known as Sparta, Corinth, Thebes, and Athens. Chief among them was the city of Mycenae, based around a hilltop fortress, the Acropolis.

Athens was another great Mycenae city, established on the ruins of a Minoan town established when those people were first exploring the area around Crete. At first under the domination of Mycenae itself, the Athenians soon won their independence and came to dominate in their turn.

When the volcano on the island of Thera exploded Athens was devastated. For a time the area around Thera was wracked with strife, even the Ægptians and Atlantlans bringing their ancient feud to a temporary halt in the face of the disaster. Babylon and Assyria both collapsed in the wake of the calamity, and Mycenae settlements were abandoned in the face of invasion by new Greek tribes coming down from the north. A new Thebes, a new Sparta and Corinth, a new Athens would arise in time. Even a new Mycenae, though that was later abandoned. With the Minoans reduced to barbarity and the Atlantlan themselves loathe to face the possibility of further volcanic eruptions, the Athenians took the main chance and soon Athenian ships were crossing the sea in number.

The War Begins

Rattled by the eruption of Thera the Atlantlan went through a time of civil war, the various Atlantlan city states being brought together as the kingdom of Atlantis. The Atlantean then reconquered the Iberians, then expanded into Italia and Gallia where they established new colonies and began to recruit the natives to their cause.

In the meantime Athens and Ægypt, warned by their gods and their auguries, marshalled their forces against the coming Atlantlan threat. While Assyria came to dominate in Mesopotamia, Anatolia, and the Levant the allies joined together to face the Atlantlan threat.

As the Chaldee took Babylon away from the Assyrians, and the Medes and Persians established themselves in what would become Persia, Ægypt and Athens fought hard against the Atlantlan and their allies.

Chief among them the Romans, who brought the Kena’ani city of Qart Hadast (Carthage) low and became the foremost allied power the Atlantlan had. By 1,500 BAF the Romans were the formost power in the Atlantlan circle of influence, and ready to make their move for dominance.

Even when the Romans rose up against their one time allies the Atlantlan kept fighting hard. While the Romans were able to conquer Gaul they were never able to successfully invade Iberia, and outside Qart Hadast gained no land by conquest in North Africa. When the Atlantlan sued for peace the Romans accepted the offer and turned their attentions eastward.

Coming next, Alexander the Great and the Macedonian Interrugnum
