How to get sound when connecting Laptop to TV & Home Entertainment System?

When connecting laptop to tv via S cable, i do not get sound, either on tv or home entertainment system. I only get sound from laptop. Both the tv and home entertainment system are sony bravia and the laptop is a compaq presario. Please let me know if an additional sound cable is needed and what type, i am not too familiar with the appropriate cables necessary.
