Last Friday, 4 of the 11 children in Aidan's class brought pets in for Show and Tell. Aidan was not one of those kids, much to his chagrin. One of the little girls brought in her five tiny kittens and I just happened to be standing in front of the classroom when her mom carried the box in.

I squeed, oohed and aahed at the fuzzy cuteness inside the box and within seconds had started a text storm to Rob listing the 5463 reasons why we needed another cat.  He finally caved got sick of listening graciously gave his consent to take one of the kittens. I told Aidan and the owner of the kittens that we would LOVE one and today we brought him home.

This morning, I filled the other pets in….

Rangoon was not impressed with the idea

I tried to explain that another cat would mean a playmate and companion for him. Someone to hang out with when the humans weren't home. It would sort of even out the dog:cat ration in the house, but Rangoon wasn't buying it.

"No new kittens!" he hissed and threatened to poke my eyes out with his claws.

"Too late!" I cried joyously, bringing the tiny ball of fur out from behind my back. Rangoon was powerless to resist the kitten's cuteness. "This," I said, plopping the kitten down in front of him, "is Oreo."  "Oh my," he purred, falling over and allowing the new baby to climb all over him.

Five minutes later it was decided. They were BFFLs (best friends for life. I pronounce it biffels) The next test was the Scoobinator and Kairo.  Scooby looooooooves kittens and had been outside the door whining while Rangoon and Oreo were getting acquainted.

I took Oreo into the living room and put him on the couch. Scooby bolted over and gave Oreo his most charming smile. Kairo was nonplussed and flounced to his cushion to pout.

Oreo finally decided that Scooby would be an acceptable playmate and was immediately covered with slobber from a very grateful dog.

We spent the afternoon watching Scooby follow Oreo around as he checked out his new house.  Rangoon would pop out every once in awhile and flop down in front of Oreo wagging his tail.  Oreo would pounce on the tail and they would play for a few minutes until Oreo got distracted and bounded off to explore a new room.

Finally, he wore himself out and now our house is quiet.  I hope we all sleep this well tonight.
